I could read 1 million words from you about the health (food/supplement/etc) industry! There is nothing that I find more frustrating than the way. This particular industry is Weaponized against its consumers. The fact that some of these green powders are literally poisoning people who think that they are made healthier by drinking them is truly wild. I do agree, though that as consumers, we need to educate ourselves instead of allowing brands to fill that void. Bravo 👏
Yes! I’m vegan and it is like every single vegan YouTuber (I’m off IG and never had TT) has been pushing AG1 for over a year. I will not buy it! I didn’t click the link and didn’t even know the price until I saw someone debunk it (I think it was unnaturally vegan, her video was good, well researched and hilarious). With conversion into Canadian dollars, it’s over $100 a month and doesn’t even give me all the nutrients I need as a vegan, in the quantities I need?
I’d rather just eat fruits and veggies and nuts and seeds and grains - they’re way yummier!
Yep. It contains stevia (gross tasting) and b12 in a form that I (and maybe 50% of the population?) apparently can't absorb well. Definitely not a "one size fits all" solution even if it wasn't so outrageously expensive.
There are so many other things we can do to improve our health before going the supplement route. Unfortunately, I think many hope they can avoid the "work" by simply taking a pill. These companies take advantage of that by seemingly providing an easy option.
The supplement industry seems to have adopted the pharmaceutical industry play book. Honing in on people’s lack of knowledge and those that would rather take a a blood pressure pill than work on the lifestyle that gave them high blood pressure.
Hi Mary! That's a really great take, I agree with you. I think unfortunately the wellness industry has aligned itself with being skinny and ageless as the ultimate goal, rather than supporting the body through the beautiful and magical aging process. It's unfortunate. I wish folks would just try eating vegetables for a month - it would do so much for our country's horrific health.
I have severe crohns disease so intestinal health is important but now the market is Flooded with horrible products for 'gut health' that do nothing, or worse, do real damage. And also damage relationships. No, I dont need bloom, it's not a cure for my disease. I do count my plant points and eat a high fiber diet and that has been the best thing for me when I am in remission. All these people diagnosing their 'gut' health have rarely had a colonoscopy or endoscopy done to know if in fact they have some sort of inflammation. On the otherhand, considering the high cost of medical care in the United States, a jug of Bloom is certainly cheaper than a visit to the doctor, so it's no wonder America is awash with this garbage.
Hi, Sarah! I am so glad you shared this perspective and I appreciate it greatly. YES! "gut health" gurus with no colonoscopies, stool samples, etc. - it's wild - when really, a high percentage of people could benefit so significantly from some natural fibers - thank you for your comment and for sharing!
I cannot and will not ever get past how expensive these green supplement powders are. I am someone who is both very bad at and benefits from taking a multivitamin daily (because of vitamin D deficiency), but these supplements feel like the wild, wild West of nutritional transparency.
And yet...I give the Bloom display a second look every time I pass by it in Target. Send help please.
Man, I feel you - sometimes I seriously wonder if there will be an audit of this absolutely fucked up industry. I hope so. Good on you, you're doing fine!
Yay, I'm not alone in my opinions about these "nutritional" products. Gel caps of dried, ground up fruit and vegetables... what an incredible waste of resources.

This was pure perfection! Also, is shilling AG1 powder a requirement for being a "longevity and/or productivity bro"?

Great read. I feel so seen. Now to go eat some fiber…
Thank you, Jane! I see you. I think I'll go and do the same ;)

Omg I'm obsessed with you. 🌿
Did we just become best friends?
Screaming 😆
Same, internally, always.

Fantastic article.
Thank you, Ella!
Brilliant. Sent this to everyone I know.
Eeeek! Thank you, Brittany!
I’d love to hear your thoughts on Moon Juice. Are any of the supplements legit?!

People will do literally anything to not eat a vegetable. Excellent piece thanks for writing it!
Do you have thoughts on the Lanserhof approach?
Ode to she who kicks ass!
